Hot and Cold packs are frequently used by cosmetic and plastic surgery patients to reduce swelling and bruising.
Both Hot and Cold therapy packs can be very effective in helping a patient recover from surgery procedures
and injuries. Some patients use bags of frozen peas or regular ice packs a gel pack is a better solution to those
methods. Gel packs can mold to the contours of the body, will not leak and place any unnecessary pressure
on the body.
The Hot packs can help reduce the appearance of bruising and will comfort to areas of discomfort.
You should consult with your doctor about when to begin using hot packs, but usually hot packs can
be used around 3 to 4 days after surgery. Hot packs can be warmed different ways and depending on
the type of hot pack being used. The packs can be heated by hot or boiling water as well as the
microwave.
The Cold packs are effective at reducing post operative swelling, bruising and pain associated with
plastic surgery procedures. These packs are easily chilled by being placed in the freezer for
10 to 20 minutes.
